ABOUT | Richard Koehler Design Works

As a child I grew up with a passion for drawing and painting leading to mentorship in high school that encouraged a career in the creative arts. This path led me to the University of North Texas, where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design. UNT’s program emphasizes traditional design theory with a focus on strong conceptual thinking—shaping not just how to create graphics, but how to craft messages that resonate with an audience. After graduation, I took a full-time position at Retro 1951, Inc. beginning as an intern and eventually growing into the role of creative director where I lead a team of designers today. Experiencing the evolution of traditional design into the digital landscape has been invaluable, providing me the opportunity to create tangible products while launching them through digital platforms. In my free time I love to explore more creative pursuits in traditional painting and drawing.

With 25 years of experience as a graphic designer, I have honed my ability to take a project from concept to product launch while working as an in-house creative. I understand the interconnected nature of traditional and digital design, ensuring cohesive and impactful visual communication across all mediums. My approach to design is rooted in theory—crafting a concept paired with the right stylistic voice to create a resonating message and call to action. I apply this theory to each project: Concept + Voice = Results.

Wherever you look, someone is trying to grab your attention and sell you something. My goal is to earn attention and create a product that draws trust and admiration. Let’s work together to create a product that is authentic and exceeds expectations.
